Using Data Quality Metrics To Drive Data Governance In A Financial Company
Challenge
The corporation contacted Elait to help them identify Data Quality issues and build metrics to allow them to track and increase the quality of source data. The lack of Data Quality was causing issues and business was unsure of accuracy of reports being generated.
Solution
With our extensive industry knowledge and technical expertise, we used KPIs to drive change in the organisation. Elait used Ab Initio Metadata Hub and the Ab Initio suites to implement Data Quality metrics and workflows.
Outcome
The quality of data began to change over time, and the business was able to identify the issues before the data made it to the reporting layer. Quality data was made available, increasing data confidence and enabling accurate reporting for business analysis.
Creating Data Lineage To Meet Regulatory Requirements And Implement Data Governance
Challenge
A major Financial Institution had a requirement to meet IFRS9 regulatory requirements to identify all data and transformations to data utilised for auditing purposes. There was a lack of corporate wide lineage to be able to justify the outputs that had been provided to the auditors.
Solution
Elait was tasked with building up a picture of numerous legacy systems and how data flowed through them. Through the process of building the lineage it was identified that there was a large gap in the understanding of the systems. During the programme, Elait was able to trace back lineage through external systems, multiple types of databases, FTP locations and queues, and load all this data into the Metadata Hub. By creating custom imports and custom reports Elait was able to create a business wide view of all systems and data transformations.
Outcome
- A graphical representation of the regulatory reports was created to be viewed, made explanations and justifications to the auditors easy, freeing business to focus & continue their Digital Transformation program.
- The program used the new insight into their systems to ensure that all data was migrated and transformation rules were captured.
- Availability of the Metadata in a central location allowed the new projects to utilise impact analysis to see the effect before the project progresses. This, in turn, decreased the cost of projects by aligning expectations of resources and expenses with realistic timescales.
- Elait was able to help the client gather Data Lineage across the entire estate for the Regulators and implement a Governance strategy to allow future regulatory audits to be completed suitably.
